VILASAR Nebbiolo

HISTORY
This old vineyard was acquired by Juan Carrau Sust when he arrived in Uruguay from Vilassar de Mar, Catalonia in 1930. Even today we keep a small block of Nebbiolo plants that are more than 90 years old. This is the legacy of the immigrants from northern Italy in Uruguay.

REGION
Las Violetas, Canelones, Uruguay

VARIETAL COMPOSITION
100% Nebbiolo

WINEMAKING
Destemmed and crushed from previously selected bunches harvested by hand. Alcoholic fermentation lasted 12 days at 22-25ºC in stainless steel tanks. Then it was racked to French oak barrels, where the malolactic fermentation occurred, and the wine rested there for 18 months. Bottled with minimal manipulation, it was then aged in the bottle for an additional year in our cellars.

TASTING NOTE
Aged red wine. Red dark colour with deep intensity. Classic truffle and pipe tobacco notes appear in the nose. After some minutes prunes and liquorice are evident and still feel on the palate, full body and complex flavors contributes for an excellent long and intense wine aftertaste. It is an ideal wine to serve with cheeses, prosciutto or spicy pastas and casseroles. Serve at 18ºC.
