VILASAR Sousao
HISTORY
This old vineyard was acquired by Juan Carrau Sust when he arrived in Uruguay from Vilassar de Mar, Catalonia in 1930. Sousão plants were more than 90 years old and last production was in 2004. This is the legacy of the immigrants from northern Italy in Uruguay.
REGION
Las Violetas, Canelones, Uruguay
VARIETAL COMPOSITION
100% Sousão
WINEMAKING
Destemmed and crushed from previously selected bunches harvested by hand. Alcoholic fermentation lasted 12 days at 22-25ºC in stainless steel tanks. Then it was racked to French oak barrels, where the malolactic fermentation occurred, and the wine rested there for 18 months. Bottled with minimal manipulation, it was then aged in the bottle for an additional year in our cellars.
TASTING NOTE
Aged red wine. Very intense red color, with purple reflections. Great concentration of aromas of red fruits, and wild flowers, spicy notes reminiscent of cardamom, rosemary and thyme. Powerful wine in the mouth, with firm but very pleasant acidity that provides freshness to its flavour. Persistent and long finish with velvety and sweet tannins. Ideal to accompany cheeses, charcuterie and spicy vegetarian dishes. Serve at 18ºC.
